5 Common Social Media Mistakes Killing Your Business Growth (And How Ascension Socials Can Help)
Let me start by saying this: I totally get how overwhelming managing social media can be. It's like juggling a dozen tasks while walking a tightrope! And that’s coming from someone who actually understands how to use it properly! I hear it from our clients all the time: the pressure of having to keep up is a full time job in itself- and most business owners don’t have that time because well, you’re busy RUNNING A BUSINESS!
Well, I’m here to share a few of the most common mistakes I see made when it comes to stagnant social media accounts and what you can do to change that so you actually see some growth and don’t feel like you’re wasting your precious time!
So without further ado, here are the top 5 mistakes you NEED to know how to fix:
Dropping the Ball on Consistency:
Ever feel like you're posting into the void? Trust me, I've been there too. But staying consistent is key. And we’re not just talking about putting a post up, just because it’s been a few days and you know you should. No, we’re talking posting based on a strategy that addresses how you fix your audience’s pain points. Note: Being consistent doesn’t mean you need to post every single day! If three times a week is more manageable- then stick to that! Despite what you might read or hear online, posting daily doesn’t actually help you if the content you’re putting out there isn’t offering any value. Map out a posting schedule that works for your busy life, and keeps your audience engaged and eager for more. Remember: quality > quantity.
Missing Out on Meaningful Connections:
It's not just about likes and follows—it's about building real relationships with your audience. Whether it's responding to comments, starting conversations, or running fun contests, it’s important to keep the conversation flowing and your followers feeling valued. Set aside even 10 minutes a day to engage meaningfully with your audience. No- that doesn’t mean plop the fire emoji in the comment section of someone you follow’s latest post. We mean: ask questions, show your personality, and get to know the people who are engaging with your content! That’s how you turn them from followers to customers!
Forgetting the Visual Wow Factor: Let's face it, we're all suckers for a stunning feed. But if your visuals are falling flat, it's time for a glow-up. Creating eye-catching graphics and photos will help to make your audience stop mid-scroll. The same goes for videos! Having a written or verbal “hook” at the beginning of your video will tell a viewer immediately what they are watching and help them decide whether they’re going to stick around to watch the rest. Not sure what I mean by “hook”? Think of a newspaper headline: it’s the first thing you read to learn about what the story is going to be about. When creating a hook for a video or graphic, ask yourself: would I stop to read more if this were an article headline?
Not Playing to Platform Strengths: Each social media platform has its own vibe, and trying to be everywhere at once can leave you feeling spread thin. Navigating the nuances of each platform takes time, consistency, and knowledge of each platform. The goal is to speak your audience's language to make a real impact, whether you're on Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, or LinkedIn. This doesn’t mean you need to create unique content ideas for each platform, but instead, focus on finding ways to repurpose one topic that speaks to the specific audience on that platform.
Flying Blind Without Data: Numbers may not be everyone's cup of tea, but trust me, they're game-changers. It’s important to look at all of your analytics to dive deep into the data to uncover what's working, what's not, and find out where you can fine-tune your strategy for maximum impact. Checking in to your analytics weekly is a great way to start recognixing trends. And don’t get discouraged if you have weeks here and there that aren’t ideal. This is a totally normal part of the process. You’re analytics are like your mood- it may swing from high highs, to low lows, but the important part it constantly checking in and finding ways to improve!
